If you’re an art collector or a creative soul, the New England Tattoo Expo at Mohegan Sun is a cornerstone event in the Northeast. We just wrapped up the 2026 show this April, and as someone who views tattoo culture through a design lens, I’m giving you the professional breakdown so you’re ready for the 2027 return.

The Structure: A High-Stakes Gallery

This isn't just a shop; it’s a three-day professional exhibition curated by legends Tom Ringwalt and Ink Master winner Steve Tefft.

The Scale: With 350+ booths and over 600 artists, the Earth Expo Center becomes a live-action museum.

The Schedule: Each day ends with the "Tattoo of the Day" competition. Watching the judges critique line saturation and color theory is a masterclass in visual art standards.

Appointments vs. Walk-ups

Don’t just show up expecting a six-hour back piece without a plan. Knowing how to land a spot with your dream artist is a skill in itself.

The Expo Instagram Strategy: This is my number one expert tip. Follow the @newenglandtattooexpo account months in advance. They are constantly featuring artist portfolios and "Artist Spotlight" posts. It is the easiest way to see a massive variety of styles, from fine-line to traditional, in one place, so you can find "the one" before you even set foot in Mohegan Sun.

Pre-booked & Celebrity Artists: Heavy hitters like Cleen Rock One or Holli Marie are usually booked solid before the doors even open. Most artists will have a "Booking" link in their Instagram bio or on their personal websites specifically for convention dates. If you have your heart set on a specific name, start checking their socials in January for the April show.

Flash & Spontaneity: If you’re like me and thrive on a bit of creative chaos, look for "Walk-ups Available" signs. Many artists leave blocks of time open specifically for "Flash" – these are pre-drawn, set-price designs that they can usually knock out in an hour or two. It’s the perfect way to snag a piece of high-end art on a whim.

The Expo Website: If you’re more of a "spreadsheet" person, the official expo website maintains a full list of attending shops. You can click through to their portfolios and reach out to them directly to inquire about their convention availability.

The Art Market (My Favorite Part)

The secret is that you don’t need new ink to have an amazing time. This is a massive Art Market. I recommend bringing a poster tube or a large tote because you’ll find:

Limited Edition Prints: Many artists bring high-quality Giclée prints of their original paintings and flash sheets.

Original Goods: From hand-painted skate decks to custom apparel. It’s the best way to support artists directly.

Beyond the Needle: It’s a total sensory experience. You’ll find world-class piercing studios if you’re looking to curate your ear stack, and live glassblowing demonstrations that are absolutely hypnotic to watch.

The "Knick-Knack" Haul: This is where the "creative chaos" really shines. I’m talking about booths filled with sculptures, oddities, handmade jewelry, and witchy home decor. It’s a goldmine for finding those unique pieces that give your studio or home that authentic, "one-of-a-kind" vibe.

Image split in two: Left side shows a person with a flame, tools on a table, and a band setup. Right side features a doll with a star on its forehead, art prints, and glass art in the background.

Pro-Tips for 2027

Dates: Mark your calendars for April 9 – 11, 2027.

Cash is King: While Mohegan has ATMs, having $25 cash for the door (and extra for those prints!) saves you so much time.

After Parties: The vibes usually move to Comix Roadhouse after the doors close; that’s where the real networking happens.

The tattoo community is one of the most inclusive, creative groups I’ve ever been part of. Whether you’re there for the ink or the inspiration, it’s a must-visit for any visual artist.

Stay inspired, stay curious.
